John B. Dunlap

John B. Dunlap  |  Owner

Brigadier General John B. Dunlap III graduated from Louisiana State University in 1986 and from Loyola University College of Law in 1989. He is a 2003 graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and was awarded a Masters of Strategic Studies by the U.S. Army War College in 2012.

General Dunlap was stationed in Germany with the 1st Armored Division and in 1990 he deployed to Iraq for Operation Desert Storm. General Dunlap joined the Louisiana National Guard in 1992. In 2004 he returned to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom as a member of the 256th Brigade Combat Team.

From 2008 until 2018 General Dunlap’s portfolio included the full Homeland Defense mission of the National Guard, including Military Support to Civilian Authorities, Cyber Defense, Use of Force, Interagency Relations, Labor Union Relations, and National Guard Policy. In 2018, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and appointed as Assistant Adjutant General – Army of the Louisiana National Guard. He retired in 2019 after 30 years of service.
